Linz
Linz Castle towers high above Linz. This landmark is a combination of restaurant and museum, historical and modern architecture. Visitors to this 18,000-square-metre attraction can experience Austria’s natural, cultural and technological history in the country’s largest universal museum.
Linz Castle is one of Linz’s oldest landmarks and captures visitors’ attention in the heart of Linz’s historic Old Town, located just a few hundred metres from the Danube. It is built on the site of the former Roman fortification of Lentia. The oldest known reference to the castle dates back to 799. Under Emperor Frederick III, the castle was rebuilt into a palace in 1477 and served as his residence from 1489 to 1493.
