Pöstlingberg Railway

Pöstlingberg Railway

This is considered one of the steepest adhesion railways in the world and carries its passengers up 539 metres to the top of Pöstlingberg Mountain in just 20 minutes. Built according to plans by Josef Urbanski, who spent his time in Linz at the same house Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart once did, the railway was opened 120 years ago. The railway has run directly from the Main Square since Linz’s year as European Capital of Culture and makes 14 stops. The Pöstlingberg Railway is not only a popular tourist attraction, but also brings many Linz natives where they need to go every day – including students at Linz’s Bruckner University, which is located halfway up Pöstlingberg Mountain.

A ticket is required to ride the Pöstlingberg Railway. You can purchase one directly before boarding at a ticket machine or at the customer service centre of Linz AG on the Main Square.
